We have a football team?

Undefeated since 1973, Drexel University football boasts an unbeaten streak that even NCAA DIV 1 record holders Oklahoma (47 consecutive wins between 1953 and 1957) would cast an envious glance over at. That the team has not played a competitive fixture since that fabled year is a moot point. And neither is its current reincarnation as comedy improv team enough to cast a shadow over 39 years unbeaten.

Thus it was fitting when on Wednesday afternoon, the Drexel Hagerty library archives department invited back a number of alumni who once graced the blue and gold. Their call to arms this time not requiring them to suit up and take the field but rather to commemorate the opening of the Dragons On the Gridion exhibition.

Filled with photographs, programs, old jerseys, game footage and on loan memorabilia from the alumni, the exhibit (which runs until April of this year) presents a unique opportunity to reminisce back to a time when Drexel’s football team was more likely to be found on the gridion rather than the hard wood stage of the Mandell theater.
