Playboy has decided to reach a larger portion of their target audience, males age 25 to 34 (that’s funny, I thought it was males from 8 to 98), by creating website that offers articles without naked women. At first, it sounds a bit shocking considering Hugh Heffner’s empire is synonymous with gorgeous Bunnies and Playmates. But the developers are hoping to tap into the working sector by allowing office workers access to a website that is safe to view at work.
Having seen a few Playboy magazines over the years, I can honestly say that the articles are often times worth a read; to the point that I sometimes forget that the only thing separating me from a naked woman is a few flimsy pieces of paper. It will be interesting to see if guys will look at Playboy’s website (called TheSmokingJacket.com) despite the fact that there are no nude women or if they will go to it because of the fact that there are no nude women. You can check out the full article at the Los Angeles Daily News website: http://www.dailynews.com/ci_15559784
Giving the website a quick glance, it appears that TheSmokingJacket.com offers little more to readers than a copy of Maxim. The website contains articles discussing sexual positions and celebrity gossip, and still includes pictures of scantily clad women. Hm, maybe this is not such an original idea after all.
