A Forgotten Resource

During the next few weeks of summer term, Drexel will be hosting orientation sessions for the incoming freshman class. During orientation, these students who have just graduated high school are given the chance to see what their next four or five years at Drexel University are going to be like.

One of the events held during orientation is the Dragon Expo. The Dragon Expo displays the numerous student organizations, clubs, and services that are awaiting the new class. One of these is the Drexel Writing Center. As a peer reader at the Writing Center, part of my job is working at the Dragon Expo to advertise this service early on so that students know there is a place they can go for help.

I was amazed at how many of these kids stopped by the Writing Center’s table, when other more socially orientated tables such as fraternities or club sports were so nearby. The new freshman had such an enthusiasm about what the Writing Center offers. Their attitude about the center was so refreshing compared to the general attitude towards it held by some current students.

The Drexel Writing Center is really a great resource – and it’s free. Who wouldn’t want someone who was qualified and willing to help them with their paper?

There are two ways to use the Writing Center. The first is making an appointment with a peer reader. These appointments can be made at www.rich65.com/drexel. Each session is one-on-one and is a half-hour long. The center is located in 0032 MacAllister Hall.

If you don’t have time to physically come in, you can send your paper to peerreaders@gmail.com . One of the tutors will review your paper and email you back within 48-72 hours with any comments or suggestions to help you.

The Writing Center is a convenient and painless way to get help, so try it!
