This Monday begins Week 9 of the winter term – so, another two weeks of classes before the start of finals. And then following finals, students and faculty are privileged to exactly a week off for spring ‘break.’ I’m pretty sure that most people would agree with me when I say that I need at least a week off following finals just to figure out what day it is and then another week or so off to temporarily forget about school.
Prior to the start of college, I used to actually look forward to spring break because we had two – three weeks off. I’d spend the first two weeks off actually relaxing – catching up on any missed movies, reading a few books here and there, visiting friends, and actually taking time to myself. I’d then begin to actually prepare for the upcoming quarter during the third week or so; perhaps, if I so felt inclined, I would glance over my syllabus and begin to outline the first few chapters for a given subject. And then college happened…now I’m lucky if I get a week off prior to the start of the spring term of classes. I usually spend the first four-five days immediately following my last final relaxing, or, in other words, shoving my textbooks and last-term materials somewhere where I won’t be inclined to look. And then, the day before the start of the spring term, reality sets in…I scramble around the house rummaging for my school materials and then proceed to dread the arrival of the next day. So, in short, I’m far from productive during my spring break – instead I spend almost the entire break trying to forget about school and dreading the fast-approaching start of classes. The week off for spring break should be fun…
