Walking revitalized

Music really does create a unique walking experience.

iPods and MP3 players have been around for well over a decade.  I’m almost embarrassed to say that I consider myself “new” to the use of my iPod.  I’ve had mine for years, but hardly ever used it.  Mostly it would serve its purpose while I was at the gym or on long airline flights and car rides.  I never had the urge to listen to music while going for a walk, but I had always seen people with their earphones in, tuned out from the rest of world.

For the past week, I have only just began to join the other music listeners out there who wear their iPods while walking around outside.  I cannot believe what I’ve been missing out on!  Walking becomes such a unique experience when listening to music.  Life just seems more epic, as if it was a scene out of a movie.

Today when I was listening to my Dave Matthews Band playlist, I thought to myself what other people were listening to and what their worlds were like.  Here I was listening to what I would consider to be a mesh of rock, soul, and jazz, while other people around me could be listening to opera, reggae, or Broadway.  Everyone’s walking experience must be so unique!

Whenever I would walk around without listening to music, these thoughts had never fazed me.  The world was bland.  Listening to the sounds of cars zooming by and overhearing people talking about the nonsensical happenings of their days is far less of an exciting walking experience than having music from a favorite playlist be the companion to your walk.
