Sean Thomas Dougherty visits Drexel

Drexel Students are pleased to host Sean Thomas Dougherty, poet and author of nine books, for a poetry reading held in Bossone Auditorium on October 21st at 11:00 am. Dougherty is said to be both a performer and a poet creating a listening experience halfway between a beatnik drum circle and HBO’s Def Poetry slam. By combining rap and poetry he creates a new art form he calls, “Broken Hallelujahs,” so if there was ever a poetry reading to go to, this one might be it. Following the reading there will be a book signing. Dougherty’s works include Except by Falling and Nightshift Belonging To Lorca.
Dougherty’s appearance will be part of Drexel’s acknowledgement of the National Day of Writing. Part of the idea behind the National Day of Writing is “to draw attention to the remarkable variety of writing we engage in,” and Dougherty’s unique poetry/hip hop performance is sure to get the right kind of attention.
